Kentucky Bigfoot Sightings: First-Person Accounts from the Appalachians
Kentucky's Appalachian ridgelines have produced some of the most detailed Bigfoot sighting reports in the country. The dense forest, remote hollows, and rural communities create conditions where encounters happen — and where people rarely talk about them. These are their stories.

Jane's Encounter
— Jane, Kentucky Appalachians
The morning I spotted it, I was up before sunrise. Deer season had just opened, and I'd been in this same stretch of woods for fifteen years without seeing anything I couldn't explain.
I was maybe a quarter mile from my truck, moving slow along a ridge I knew well. The fog was low — you could see about thirty feet in any direction, no more. I had my rifle, but I wasn't expecting to use it yet. Just walking, letting the woods settle around me.
That's when I heard it. Not a crack of a branch — more like something shifting its weight. Deliberate. Aware.
I stopped. The woods went quiet in that particular way they do when something larger than you is also standing still.
I turned toward the sound. At first I saw nothing. Then the fog shifted, and I saw it — standing maybe forty feet off, partially behind a stand of birch trees. It was tall. Much taller than a man. Dark, with heavy shoulders and arms that hung longer than they should.
It wasn't running. It wasn't hiding. It was watching me.
I didn't move. I don't think I breathed.
After what felt like a full minute, it turned — slowly, without any urgency — and walked into the fog. Not crashing through brush. Walking. Like it had decided I wasn't worth its time.
I stood there until I couldn't hear anything anymore. Then I walked back to my truck and sat in it for an hour before I drove home.
I've been back to that ridge twice since. Both times, I found impressions in the soft ground near the birch stand. Fourteen inches. Too wide for any man.
I've never told anyone who would believe me.
