I was driving home late, sometime after midnight, when my headlights caught something on the side of Route 20. At first I thought it was a deer — it was hunched over at the tree line, dark brown, maybe tan in some patches. Big. Bigger than I expected.
Then it stood up.
It didn't rise the way a bear does, slow and lumbering. This thing unfolded. Long arms, long legs, head that sat too far forward on its neck. It had to be seven feet tall, maybe more. I stopped the car without thinking. I couldn't breathe.
It turned its head toward me.

What Is a Dogman?
Dogman reports describe a bipedal creature standing 7–9 feet tall, covered in dark fur, with a canine-shaped head. Unlike Bigfoot accounts — which describe an ape-like creature — Dogman witnesses consistently report facial features resembling a dog or wolf. The creature is almost always described as walking upright.
Sightings cluster in the Upper Midwest, Appalachian corridor, and rural West Virginia. Witnesses often describe a sense of immediate threat that distinguishes these accounts from Bigfoot encounters. Many report the creature tracking or following them.
